Shadows of Kilforth, June 2019: pledge manager funds will be collected in 48 hours
over 1 year ago – Mon, Jun 03, 2019 at 07:49:43 PM

Greetings Shadow Wanderers,

I hope you're absolutely dancing a jig of happiness on this bright Monday morning, because we are totally shattered after UK Games Expo! More on that in a bit, but now here's an important message...

BackerKit Pledge Manager: Cards will be charged and funds will be taken in 48 hours. After this the game prices will update to RRP in BackerKit so please don't miss out!!

Thank you to the vast majority of you who have already completed your BackerKit orders. To those of you who haven't: the pledge manager Kickstarter discounts are now ending, and orders paid by PayPal have already been locked. If you're paying by card you still have two days to complete your pledge orders, after which time everyone's orders will be locked and cards will be charged. Then the Kickstarter discounts will end, and prices will revert to RRP in the BackerKit pre-order store in line with our commitments to our retailers.

If you need any help or have any comments or questions about this please email us directly via francesca at hallornothingproductions.co.uk

Please note that you will still be able to change your address right up until fulfilment begins.

Playmats!!

The prototype Hero Playmats are looking blooming spiffy with the fancy stitched edges - check out all 4 of these beauties below, still available to add to your order in the pledge manager. As my mum always used to say about Saturday Morning sweets and treats: when they're gone, they're gone!

And here's an earlier prototype of the world playmat - the final version will have stitched edges as well and sport the Shadows of Kilforth logo too:

We've tried roll tube packaging and flat packaging for the playmats via international post and both worked out fine, but flat packaging is easier and more cost effective for all of us so that's what we're going to do.

UK Games Expo 2019

We had an absolute belter of a time meeting so many cool gamers and talking everything gameage all weekend. I've taken a vow of silence for the next week or so to allow my throat to recover from chattering non-stop the whole time! :D Here are some photos from the show:

Shadows of Kilforth May 2019: Pledge Manager is Live and the Surveys are out!!
over 1 year ago – Fri, May 03, 2019 at 02:55:23 AM

Howdy fair folk of Kilforth!

Hope you're enjoying this beautiful Friday morning - it's absolutely tipping it down with rain here in sunny Manchester, which is no surprise to anyone. But our spirits are high, because we've been beavering away this last month working in the shadows on the pledge manager for... Shadows. And it became somewhat more logistically complicated when we added Gloom of Kilforth and all its expansions to BackerKit!

Yes, it's done - you spoke, we listened, and a third print run of Gloom of Kilforth will be underway to ship along with Shadows of Kilforth for those of you who opt for it.

BackerKit Pledge Manager is Live and the Surveys are out!!

All of the BackerKit surveys have now gone out...

We had a successful smoke test yesterday - thank you to those  of you who already filled in your surveys, it really really helps us to get organised when we receive this information from you sooner rather than later - and now every one of you should have access to the BackerKit pledge manager. Here you will be able to finalise your shipping and pledge info, and also add in anything you might have missed from the campaign including all of the expansions for both games, and any of the gorgeous playmats, which are compatible with Shadows of Kilforth and Gloom of Kilforth.

If you did not get the invite (maybe it was lost in the gloom of your junk filters), or if you have any trouble logging in, or if you lost your survey email just click here and log in:

https://shadows-of-kilforth.backerkit.com

Everything should be fairly straightforward as you literally just click on the stuff that you like, but if you have any questions or issues or comments or if you just want to tell Francesca how lovely her music is just email us directly - francesca at hallornothingproductions.co.uk - we're here to help you.

As promised, we'll fix the Kickstarter discounts in place for you for Shadows of Kilforth for another month before the game prices are updated to RRP.

UK Games Expo 2019

Francesca Hall and I will be representing Hall or Nothing at UK Games Expo 31st May - so come and say hello at stand 1-1016. UKGE is our favourite convention - it's the first one I went to as a punter many years ago, and it's an absolute privilege to now have a stand there to demo our games, and also to be a sponsor of the event, but the most fun bit of all is to meet you guys and talk about games and other cool stuff! Here's a quick dose of what we got up to last year:

We can't wait to deliver Shadows of Kilforth to you - the next beautiful game in the fantasy world that has become my second home - and we hope you'll join us for many more adventures to come. We'll keep you updated with progress development on Shadows as we go of course. And for those of you interested in our other offerings our third game, the alien themed sci-fi horror Lifeform is about to ship out from China and is still available for pre-order through BackerKit. And if you love gorgeously illustrated historically themed games (perhaps you already played our sophomore game 1066, Tears to Many Mothers?) we will be back on Kickstarter later this summer with our next campaign for 1565, St Elmo's Pay...

One of the 100+ unique images from 1565, St Elmo's Pay

That's all for now folks,

Cheer-o!

Would you like to see Gloom of Kilforth + expansions available in the pledge manager?
almost 2 years ago – Mon, Apr 01, 2019 at 02:07:44 AM

Hi guys, more of you are asking for this since we sold out so we're just gauging interest for a very limited reprint run of Gloom of Kilforth (+ expansions) to print alongside Shadows of Kilforth. So...

Would you like to see Gloom of Kilforth + expansions available in the pledge manager?

If you are interested in purchasing Gloom of Kilforth (and/or expansions) please post a simple "Yes" in the comments section below this update.

Please do not post a "Yes" in the main comments section instead as that would just be confusing.

You do not need to reply if you're not interested/have already ordered it/own it/etc...

Cheers to all of you, you wonderful peeps - can't believe we only have 3 hours left now!

Shadows of Kilforth FINAL DAY - The Art of Kilforth
almost 2 years ago – Sun, Mar 31, 2019 at 02:27:58 AM

Hi guys,

£139,750 pledged 1397% funded 2,471 backers 15 hours to go!!!

Unbelievable stuff, we are so proud and delighted with the progress of this campaign, thank you so much to all of you for once again destroying our expectations. Shadows of Kilforth has smashed our personal milestones and we could not be happier! :D

I've been trying to stay out of your inboxes as much as possible (our veteran backers will tell you how difficult that is for me!) in order to keep the spammage to a minimum, but it's the FINAL DAY TODAY so here I am again. And as it's the last day we have something a little special for you.

The Brains

Firstly, an emotional and insightful blog from my partner in crime and the altogether better half of Hall or Nothing Productions Ltd, director, composer, and solicitor Francesca L Hall. It's a little bit about who we are and what we do (thank you to the very talented and lovely Morten Monrad Pedersen for the interview):

https://boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/88100/maybe-not-suffering-spouse-board-game-publisher-fr

The Art

And finally, some visuals. Having poured my life into developing my dream game and game world for over a decade now, one of the single most rewarding elements of my job is sharing these fantastical narratives with world-class artists who then take my weird ramblings and breathe beautiful living magic into them, realising and coalescing words into sumptuous imagery.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so without further ado here's 30,000 words of art for you - and bear in mind that this is a TINY FRACTION of the 250+ images you will receive in Shadows of Kilforth!!

Thanks again so much for giving us the opportunity to go on these fantasy adventures together with you, and to be able to present these worlds to you - this is seriously a dream job for me.

See you on the flip-side peeps, let's enjoy these final few hours of the campaign together, and please share the flippin' heck out of the campaign page on every social channel you have so we can try to hit those final few stretch goals!

Then we can all relax and enjoy a well deserved cold one (before the Hall or Nothing work-load suddenly doubles)... :D

Shadows of Kilforth Day 27 - Playmat Preview, Scion Preview, GoK Challenge, Couch of Death, Dark Shadows
almost 2 years ago – Thu, Mar 28, 2019 at 02:31:56 AM

 Hi everyone!

Let's take another peek at those stats:

£120,508 pledged 1205% funded 2,129 backers 4 days to go!!

Well over two thousand backers now, and over a thousand comments too - you're a chatty bunch and we love it! :D:D Not long left to go now, so if you haven't already please be sure to shout about the campaign on all of your social channels to help us hit those remaining stretch goals (because these are some really juicy ones) before we ride this beast home!

World Playmat Layout

We've been tinkering with the layout for the World Map Playmat to accommodate as much of the game as possible without ruining the gorgeous backdrop, and I've driven our graphic designer Darren Marks to the brink of insanity with my edits on this beauty. The location spots now house regular sized location cards plus plenty of room to overlay them with the encounter cards you'll meet on your adventures; but they also feature non-invasive, nifty little corner outlines for those of you who will be using the larger Pimp My Shadows tarot-sized location cards too. We're also considering an option for one popular piece of alternative art for the World Map Playmat too but it will require some logistical creativity, and it will also depend on how high we reach within campaign - more info on that as I have it. For now, here's a leetle sneak peek at the World Map Playmat layout:

Scion of Sorrow Preview

The Scion of Sorrow is just one of the four new ancient demons emerging from the caustic gloom that blights the land of Kilforth, presaging death and agony. The weave of sorrow surrounding the Scion causes heroes to despair in the face of overwhelming odds, forcing them to neglect their ineffectual earthly tools (by discarding all of their loot tokens). It also eats away magical energy and causes the heroes' spells to not only frequently dissipate altogether, but also to strengthen the Scion's own power.

But possibly most troublesome of all is the Scion of Sorrow's whimsical ability to just cease to exist at the location at which the heroes are assaulting it. At the end of each battle round, if undefeated the Scion will simply step away through the Veil and vanish from sight. Cooperating heroes can try to anticipate this by organising their fellow party members into adjacent locations, ready to continue the assault in separate teams. But competitive or solo heroes will need to hunt the monster down once more by spending precious actions to move to and clear its location before resuming the battle - hopefully during the same day so that its faster healing abilities don't kick in overnight...

Every Ancient's special abilities are provided on separate 'Ancient Abilities' cards - this way players can shuffle them randomly before the game starts to determine which Ancient has which set of powers for that game.

Scionic Blast

New 'FOLLOW' Deed (Following other heroes)

For veteran Gloom of Kilforth players, a simple game rule that has been introduced in Shadows of Kilforth is the new Deed Follow. This allows cooperating heroes to follow and move with other heroes outside of their own turn. Simply put: if you are in the same location as another hero and they leave your location of their own accord during their turn, you may opt to discard one Action Point to move with them to their new destination, even through a shortcut! This allows cooperative heroes to move, explore, and battle together more frequently, and adds new tactical flexibility for assaulting the Ancients. Feel free to try it out in your games of GoK. Speaking of...

Gloom of Kilforth Challenge

For the veterans amongst you (and for those of you who've already received your copies of GoK) one of our Kilforthian Legends - Chris Pearson - has put together this great challenge to get you going. Fantastic for players new to the game, or to those returning the game to the table after a break:

Couch of Death

Fancy playing Shadows of Kilforth in hard mode? This specially commissioned piece will teach you not to rely on the markets of Kilforth, because they are now all closed! Also, the Couch of Death causes you to lose 1 maximum HP before the game even starts. And just wait until you see the Gloom side when your game arrives...

The Couch is here, at long last...
The Couch is here, at long last...

Dark Shadows

For those of you interested in the Dark Shadows expansion pack, this is basically a collection of racier versions of the existing art pieces from the base game. Dark Shadows is a totally optional alternative art collection, and not required for play, but if you're considering adding a copy to your pledge there are a couple of art teasers at our blog via the link below:

Do you like what we're doing?

If you're a fan of our games and want to help us continue doing what we're doing please lend us your clicks and support by voting for 1066, Tears to Many Mothers in the Golden Geek Awards - it really does mean the world to us to even be nominated for something as cool as this!  Simply click the link below and vote for 1066 under the "Wargame" and "2-player" game categories - a vote of 1 is totally amazing (whereas a vote of 10 is just absolutely awful):

https://boardgamegeek.com/geekawards/boardgame

And that's all for now folks - we're spinning quickly towards the end of this whirlwind visit back to the land of Kilforth and, as always, it remains a huge pleasure to have you join us in building this world in which we craft our fantastical tales. So thank you for your continuing support you absolute beauties!
